Skinny Barrettes
Need an idea for a fresh spring updo? Check out the red leather barrettes on the 3.1 Philip Lim runway. Just part your hair to one side and twist the ends of your hair into a small, off-center bun. Add a long, skinny barrette opposite your part and you’ve got an easy, sophisticated look!

Lorick Spring 2010
Check out the ladylike feathers on model-turned-designer Abigail Lorick’s runway. If you’ve watched Gossip Girl, you may already be familiar with some of Abigail’s designs- Lorick’s pieces are used as Eleanor Waldorf’s collection on the show. Growing up on Amelia Island, Florida and admiring Scarlet O’Hara, Lorick’s collections are filled with southern grace and charm. Her collections are often embellished by hats, and while this season is no exception, feathers have been added to the models hair giving an air of prim and proper whimsy.
The feathers used on the runway are probably not available for sale, but you can shop a similar look at Perch.
Net-a-Porter headbands i’m loving right now… and why!
Liliana Rosette Hairband by Eugenia Kim
The Liliana Hairband is bright and playful- right on trend, and the rosette is the perfect embellishment for spring! The hairband is made of silk-chiffon so it’s light and airy and holds your hair in place on warm spring days. This headband is the perfect accessory for a cute, vibrant sundress or a practical way to dress up your bathing suit.
Sequined Woven Hairband by Missoni
This headband exudes understated elegance and luxury. The woven texture is casual and beachy but contrasted by gold and silver sequins that add the perfect amount of gleam. This piece easily can transform a casual beach look into a sophisticated night look.
Striped Grosgrain Hairband by Jennifer Behr
Everything about this headband is chic! The striped grosgrain ribbon gives a nod to nautical without being too over the top, and the gold metal chain adds elegance and a pop of color to the black and white band. This headband is the perfect way to enhance a casual look! Not to mention it will match almost any outfit!
Athena Woven Hairband by Eugenia Kim
The Grecian-inspired Athena Woven hairband is also perfect for spring and summer because of it’s sailor’s knot. The woven gunmetal has a touch of metallic to add a little glam. As net-a-porter recommends, I agree that this headband goes perfect with a one-shouldered gown or a maxi dress.

Getting Married?
Now that I’m engaged, I am instantly interested in bridal fashion. Since I am a headband aficionado, it makes perfect sense for me to opt for a headband over the traditional veil. Some designs, however, let you have the best of both worlds- a veil attached to a headband! View some of my favorite bridal headbands below.

Jennifer Behr: Spring 2010
Once again, we look to Jennifer Behr to define the new season’s trends in hair accessories and, in Gossip Girl terms, this season is no Blair Waldorf. This season’s designs reflect Serena Van Der Woodsen’s style: effortless, edgy, downtown chic. The rosette headband (previously worn by Miss Waldorf) gets an update into cool denim- an accessory Serena would easily pair with a leather jacket and boots. But don’t worry Blair fans- the grosgrain headwrap with simple crystal bow is the perfect mix of preppy and feminine to fit your Upper East Side needs.

Bambako Preview: Spring 2010
By now it is no secret that I am a huge fan of Bambako, but Abigail Ricarte has really outdone herself with her spring 2010 collection. The new headbands are ethereal with their sheer silk ribbons yet hip with their neon 80’s elastic. New bows and barrettes are introduced to the collection clasped with gemstones- the perfect touch! Old designs are reintroduced in playful new colors or reworked with a floral twist. The headbands and bows are bright and colorful- indicative of an energetic spring to come.
